ABOUT

Embla Sigurgeirsdottir is an Icelandic ceramic artist that finished her BA(Hons) Degree of Contemporary Applied Arts in 2014 at the University of Cumbria after studying two years of ceramics at the Reykjavik School of Visual Art.

Drawing inspiration from her home surroundings in Iceland, porcelain lent itself to her designs with its white color and soft and fragile properties.  She has embraced the idea of conveying in the color of the glazes and texture of her pieces the mood and the qualities of the Icelandic nature influenced by the ever changing light and weather of the island.  The deep rims and sharp edges that are seen in her work are inspired by the surface of the valleys and mountains, shaped and formed through millenniums by the enormous power of the ever shifting interaction of flowing lava streams and grinding glaciers.
